CSA SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

Highlights of the Special Board Meeting March 15th

David Hoover the Director of Water & Waste Water for the Utilities Commission addressed the Board with the history of the reclaimed water line and what happened. Basically the 8″ cast iron pipe is 66 years old and used to be a freshwater line that could no longer be utilized for that so they implemented a reclaimed water system with it for 22 years. 5 Weeks ago a boat anchor snagged it and created a 40 foot crack in the pipe. The dive team said it was too old and even if they did put a repair clamp on it, it may collapse from the pressure of the clamp. So it was not worth it to try a repair. The cost of a new pipe would be 1.5 million. What they could offer us is to install, for free, meters for potable water and not charge the sewer fees.

He then had a Q&A session with the board – For the details on this refer to minutes of the meeting posted under Minutes & Agendas.

The short term fix is to accept their offer for the free hook up of the meters – change the irrigation to have pressure shut off valves in case of leaks and rain gauges to not water while its raining and to cut back watering times to keep the landscape alive until a permanent solution can be worked out. We do have one well on the property that we are hoping will be usable for watering the golf course. That will cut the amount potable water usage. We will be testing it to see if it is usable.

The long term fix – A task force of Carrie Stepp, Mike Stubbs and John Hankins will be checking into many avenues such as grant money, meeting with the city of NSB. Most felt that there should have been money set aside by the commission to make repairs and it is not our fault they didn’t and they need to come up with a better long term solution than our community having to pay the high price of using potable water for our landscape, not to mention the fact that it is not environmentally sound to do so.

We will keep you informed of the progress and please be patient with us and when the system does come back up, report leaks ASAP.

KEEP OUR WATERWAYS CLEAN

IT HAS COME TO OUR ATTENTION THAT SOME WHO USE THE MARINA ARE NOT PICKING UP THEIR TRASH WHEN THEY LEAVE. OTHERS WHO CARE ABOUT OUR RIVERS AND BOUCHELLE PROPERTY ARE PICKING UP AFTER THEM. PLEASE DON’T LITTER AND CARRY OUT WHAT YOU BRING TO THE AREA. A BIG THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO ARE KEEPING THE AREA CLEAN. WE WILL BE PUTTING OUT TRASH CANS FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE – BUT PLEASE – IF THEY ARE FULL, CARRY OUT YOUR TRASH. WHEN THEY OVERFLOW, THE WIND BLOWS THE TRASH OUT INTO THE RIVER.
